A Big Opportunity Nobody Is Talking About
Just a quick note from me today. I’m traveling home from Jacksonville, Florida, where I was at the beautiful Ponte Vedra Inn… the seaside resort where the folks from The Oxford Club are hosting their latest conference.
I took the stage to talk about a topic that may be familiar to you – security tokens.
The timing was perfect. Money is rushing into this brand-new asset class… yet nobody is talking about it.
That’s how opportunities are made. Big opportunities.
And while security tokens and crypto are related only by the technology behind them, lots of folks have asked me about the latest news from the realm of Bitcoin and its brethren.
Specifically, they want to know my thoughts on the latest fight between the SEC and Coinbase… and, as of yesterday, the CFTC’s action against Binance.
As I’ve written before, regulations in this sector are welcome. A decentralized Wild West would give the current system a healthy run for its money, but it’d be painful for the many assets that have become dependent on the government’s seal of approval.
Reading the tea leaves, I have no doubt the SEC is going to designate a slew of cryptos securities. That’s bad news for Coinbase. Some say as many as 80% of the tokens on its exchange could get the moniker. Because it’s not a registered securities dealer, Coinbase would have to stop listing those assets.
It’d be a big blow to the company and the industry.
But it’d be great news for security tokens… the real-deal assets that have already gotten the government’s nod of approval. It’d be even better news for the foundational companies that are bringing the security token industry to life.
One of those companies is the focus of my latest presentation.
It’s very exciting.
But what does all of this mean for crypto? Is that industry on its way out?
Hardly.
Bitcoin is up more than 60% so far this year. Dozens of other coins and tokens are up even more… in some cases much more.
The crypto space will remain a highly speculative arena for investors, but with SEC action helping to sort the winners from the losers, the opportunities will get clearer with each passing week.
With interest rates threatening to plateau and soon fall, the theory behind our Modern Asset Portfolio calls for an increased exposure to this sort of speculation. The risk-reward equation is moving in our favor.
I’ll keep you up to date.
