Forget the Election. Vote for Yourself… Every Day

For nearly a year now, we’ve been running a lousy unfunded campaign to become the president of the United States.

It’s proudly been one of the worst campaigns in modern history.

We made no promises. We made no speeches. And we even vowed to close Washington for weeks at a time… just like the old days.

But, alas, it seems folks no longer want that. They want something we can’t deliver – something no man can deliver – and so today… we proudly admit defeat.

We gave a grand concession speech to the nation last night. But since no TV cameras showed up to record our words, we’ll print the transcript below.

Here it is…

Dear America,

We heard a horrible story this week.

Jacquelyn Hammond no longer speaks to her mother… the beautiful soul who clutched a newborn Jacquelyn tight to her chest as she breathed her first Earthly breaths.

She no longer talks to the mother who sacrificed her Friday night to bake her 6-year-old daughter a purple and white birthday cake… just as Jacquelyn wanted.

She won’t call up and chat with the mother who soothed her after a rough day at school… or a treacherous day at a new job.

All because she wants a 24% capital gains tax and she really likes wearing a mask?

It’s a silly thing…

But she is not alone.

Mayra Gomez won’t talk to her 21-year-old son… the same son who could dream of nothing more than hugging his mother during the first hour of his first day of school.

Rosanna Guadagno missed her beloved mother’s funeral… because her brother disowned her and refused to call.

The list of names goes on and on.

Folks are dead. Folks are fighting. And some folks have walked out.

It’s a sad story. But it’s real.

America… this is you.

They say that elections have consequences. But, disappointed citizen, we say that’s not true… It’s just another lie from the folks we pay to lie to us.

The truth is… votes have consequences.

Elections don’t matter.

You’ll see what we mean…

For the last four years, we’ve watched as one side vowed revenge and the other dug in its heels. Each was convinced that their man would make it all better… that one election would suddenly send the nation back to the high ground.

But here we are again… at the lowest of the low – locked up, sick, angry, worried about our money and praying the election will fix it all.

Mother and son… not speaking.

Brother and sister… at odds.

Husband and wife… separated.

All that pain isn’t from the election. Oh no. Trump didn’t do that. Biden won’t fix it.

We certainly can’t.

The pain is from the voting. We’ve done it to ourselves.

America… this is you.

On days like this, we think of the 18-year-old Army private crouched down in a foxhole in France. The only person in sight who spoke his native tongue just slumped over as a bullet snuffed out his life. The soldier from Des Moines would give anything to hug his mother one more time or fish an old farm pond with his brother by his side.

Tax rates don’t matter. Who gets the next handout doesn’t matter.

Freedom does. And that’s why he died.

On cold mornings like this, we think of the worn-out treads of the dock at Ellis Island. Oh, the footprints they’ve seen. Thousands of tired souls marched from ship to shore, leaving everything they had for a chance at something new.

Lady Liberty once held the brightest light on the planet… a beacon so bright that it guided ships across deadly seas.

But today? That light is enshrouded in fog.

Most folks see a mirage cast from that old, forgotten lamp. It’s a false signal that compels us to hate our neighbor… disavow our father… and trade our sovereignty for hope in a man and his gilded pen.

We look to him for our morality… our economy… our safety… and, now, our love and affection.

This is you, America.

It’s why we want to climb that tower, replace that bulb and let the light shine down brighter than ever… creating a blinding beacon that reminds us of the truth.

It reminds us…

That freedom doesn’t come from a man who has made his living writing laws to control others…

That morality doesn’t come from a man who needs to thrill to keep his job…

That a fair and healthy economy is governed by the government… not fueled by it…

That safety does not come from a soft man with a big stick. It comes from you… and the knowledge to care for yourself.

But most of all… we’d polish that beacon until it’s so smooth and so true that it’s abundantly clear that love, affection and our relationships… are our most precious assets.

They can’t be taxed, titled or taken away.

But they can be traded for a vote. And once they are… oh my, they can never be replaced.

We must not be so naïve to trade something so divine for something so hollow and so manufactured as the political machine – to trade the love for our mother for the love of a hollow man on TV.

But yet… this is you, America.

Borders are lines drawn on paper.

Laws are things that come and go. They stack up like cordwood until we can’t see what was on the other side.

But morality… altruism… and love for our neighbor and his freedom… They’re not on the ballot.

We don’t elect them every four years.

No.

We vote for them every day – with every choice we make.

America… you didn’t cast your ballot in our direction. That’s okay. We don’t deserve it.

We’d rather you forget your vote yesterday and vote for yourself today… and tomorrow… and the next day.

After all, it’s not control of a nation we are after.

We want a nation that controls itself, just as it was built to do.

America, this is you.

Elections don’t matter.

But votes do.

Next time, we say… vote for yourself.

And go hug your damned kids… no matter who they voted for.

In what ways do you vote for yourself? Tell us about it at mailbag@manwardpress.com.
