As we age, our bodies can sometimes feel like they’re strangers to us. For years we can feel like we’re in perfect health, only to wake up one day in what feels like someone else’s body.
This doesn’t happen by chance.
If you’ve all of a sudden noticed or been experiencing thinning hair, weight gain, puffy eyes, insomnia, dry skin, constipation or brain fog, you may be suffering from Hashimoto’s disease.1
Hashimoto’s disease is the most common autoimmune disease in the U.S. It attacks the thyroid, often leading to low thyroid function, or hypothyroidism. Some 30% to 40% of Americans have a thyroid that is underperforming.
But what should have you concerned is 95% of us carry a virus that affects Hashimoto’s (that’s according to the National Institutes of Health). And the virus can attack without warning.
A Silent Threat
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), or more commonly known as mono, has been linked to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, according to research in the Journal of Immunology.2
This highly contagious virus can lay dormant for years. You won’t show signs of it or feel any symptoms.
But when it becomes active, the virus goes after many of our organs, including the liver, spleen and thyroid.
Its effect on the thyroid has led to it being called the thyroid virus.
Seven Key Markers for Thyroid Health
If you’ve noticed the symptoms I mentioned above, you should get your thyroid tested.
There are seven key markers for thyroid health…
- TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone)
- Free T4 (thyroxine)
- Free T3 (triiodothyronine)
- TPO (thyroid peroxidase antibodies)
- TG (thyroglobulin antibodies)
- Reverse T3
- T3 Uptake.3
Be sure to ask for all seven tests. Conventional physicians have been trained to order only the TSH test. If your doctor does not order all seven, you could be misdiagnosed and not receive the right treatment.
If your TPO or TG levels are elevated, then you have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Your body has attacked the thyroid gland to the point that it is not functioning correctly.
If your free T4 and free T3 levels are also low, then you have hypothyroidism.
Ask your doctor to order an EBV titer panel to diagnose the root of your thyroid issues.
The Right Treatment
You can treat your thyroid issues and take care to support your body and immune system if you carry the Epstein-Barr virus.
If you are hypothyroid, the most complete thyroid treatment is porcine thyroid medication. If you don’t want to ingest a product made from pigs, then the synthroid and cytomel combination will give you a synthetic version of T4 and T3 hormones.
Symptoms improve once thyroid hormones are replaced, but that’s only the start of your battle plan.
You must also seek to attack the virus… which you can do through the foods you eat.
Certain nutrients have the power to inhibit and kill viruses and bacteria.
Apples fight viruses because they are anti-inflammatory. Fruit pectin also helps detox your body, dragging out viral particles and heavy metals.
Berries provide all kinds of antioxidants and phytonutrients. They have an outstanding ability to fortify the immune system. Not to mention, they contain fiber, which helps balance blood sugar and insulin levels.
Garlic is well-known for its cardiovascular benefits by lowering blood pressure. It is also huge for immunity, killing both viral and bacterial pathogens.
Boost your thyroid with easy snacks, such as apple slices with cauliflower, tomatoes with spinach, bananas with dulse flakes, and even mango and kale. These combinations will go a long way in assisting the thyroid heal and remain strong.
Also add the following nutrient-rich drinks to your diet. You may notice a significant change for the better in as little as 30 days.
Start your day with 8 ounces to 16 ounces of blended celery juice. It kills viruses and bacteria while lowering blood pressure. (If you’re taking blood pressure medications, start with 8 ounces and increase gradually.)
In the early afternoon, drink 16 ounces of water combined with the juice of half a lemon or lime. Also include 16 ounces of blended cucumber juice to your routine in the evening.
Applying the above dietary and medical suggestions should dramatically impact your thyroid health.
To optimal aging,
