This is what separates the good from the great.
It’s why some folks become billionaires… and others languish.
It’s why some folks are always sick and in pain… while others are healthy and active.
It’s not what you think.
In fact… it’s how you think.
It’s why we spend so much time on our Know-How. The more we understand and the more we share it, the better the world will be.
Take, for instance, some odd news this week.
Shrimp in Europe are getting high.
That’s right… Docs across the continent are finding traces of cocaine in shellfish. They’re also finding antidepressants, anesthetics and even long-outlawed pesticides in the tiny critters.
But it’s not just Europe.
Down in Australia, it’s the platypus that’s having problems.
Every day, the poor critters are ingesting more than half an adult dose of antidepressants, just by swimming in their natural waters.
The problem with drugs flowing out of our sewer systems is so bad, in fact, biologists now believe it’s affecting the migratory habits of a fish that’s touched our soul. The salmon is one of the ocean’s most important species. Its effect on the ecosystem is incredible.
And yet thanks to medicines like Valium and Xanax coursing through their pink flesh, some of the fish are now migrating twice as quickly as they should.
In other words, Big Pharma may be causing more pain than once thought.
The disclaimers are true… side effects may vary.
But it’s not just the drug companies that we can accuse of not thinking things through.
Take this oh-so-quick rollout of 5G.
Rain, Rain, Go Away
It’s happening across the globe. Cellphone companies love it because they can hike up our monthly bills. And governments are circling the idea like sharks cradling up to a chum bucket because there’s huge money at stake. Uncle Sam has raked in billions of dollars by simply selling the rights to radio waves.
But it turns out the government may not have thought things through. (Go figure.)
No… it’s now looking like Ma Nature may have owned the spectrum first. And it has weather forecasters in all sorts of a tizzy.
Take the 23.8-gigahertz (GHz) frequency. The government has sold a lot of spectrum quite close to it. But the government either didn’t care, didn’t know or forgot to report that Ma Nature is on the frequency, too.
You see, water vapor emits a very faint signal at 23.8 GHz.
Forecasters tune to it to help them predict and measure storms.
“Such data is critical to our ability to make forecasts,” said Niels Bormann, a meteorologist protesting the 5G power grab.
With cellphones taking over the spectrum and overpowering the signal from the rain, the weathermen will have a tough time calling their shots.
“In the end it could make the difference between life and death. We are very concerned about this,” said Tony McNally, another big-shot meteorologist in Europe.
Again… side effects may vary.
It happens in the money game, too.
We’ve reported it often.
Not My Problem
In the wake of the 2008 financial disaster, the Fed got to work. It printed money, it cut rates and it told the world not to worry… Old Man Bernanke’s got your back.
Ten years later, Bernanke’s collecting Social Security and Wall Street still can’t thrive on its own.
Nobody quite yet knows the full side effects of printing trillions of dollars of fake money, but we all agree they aren’t looking pretty.
This is what so many folks overlook. It’s what separates the good from the great.
It’s why we spend so much of our time focusing on Know-How.
We just listed three huge examples of unintended side effects. But they certainly aren’t the only ones affecting our life or yours.
You may start a new medicine today… you may take an extra drink… you may say something harsh… you may buy a new TV… you may opt for an electric car… or you may lie on the couch and take a nap.
All come with a benefit. Somebody will surely hype it up.
But it’s the downside you won’t hear about.
The drug might make you pee a lot. That extra drink could start a new habit. That TV could warp your mind.
You get it.
Our point here is simple.
Prize your Know-How as much as your bank account. Guard it just the same. And make deposits every chance you get.
There are enough people screwing up this world.
You don’t have to add to the list.
