Our Favorite Thoughts and Quotes About Fatherhood

Our goal with this little (actually, it’s getting quite big) passion project of ours is to make men think.

Modern society has made us complacent. We get up in the morning, get in our car and go to work.

Rinse… repeat.

We often forget what it is we’re really here to do – to provide for the next generation.

That doesn’t mean just money or food. It means safety… it means health… it means knowledge.

And to our children… it means the world.

Tomorrow is Father’s Day. It’ll be real easy to sit around and accept the offer to relax and drink a beer. We say go ahead and do it… but we beg you to first ponder the idea of being a father.

Take time to think about what it means.

To help, we’ve done something a bit different this morning. We’ve compiled a series of our favorite thoughts and quotes about fatherhood.

Our goal is simple… to make you think about what the role truly means. (We may even earn a cheap laugh or two in the process…)

My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, “You’re tearing up the grass.” “We’re not raising grass,” Dad would reply. “We’re raising boys.” – Harmon Killebrew

Being a great father is like shaving. No matter how good you shaved today, you have to do it again tomorrow. – Reed Markham

He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.  – Clarence Budington Kelland

A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty. – Unknown

Be a dad. Don’t be “Mom’s Assistant”… Be a man… Fathers have skills that they never use at home. You run a landscaping business and you can’t dress and feed a four-year-old? Take it on. Spend time with your kids… It won’t take away your manhood, it will give it to you. – Louis CK

It is easier for a father to have children than for children to have a real father. – Pope John XXIII

The greatest thing a father can do to his children, is to love their mother. – Anjaneth Garcia Untalan

You will find that if you really try to be a father, your child will meet you halfway.  – Robert Brault

A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society. – Billy Graham

The father who does not teach his son his duties is equally guilty with the son who neglects them. – Confucius

I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection. – Sigmund Freud

When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant, I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years. – Mark Twain

It’s a wonderful feeling when your father becomes not a god, but a man to you – when he comes down from the mountain and you see he’s this man with weaknesses. And you love him as this whole being, not as a figurehead. – Robin Williams

The father of a daughter is nothing but a high-class hostage. A father turns a stony face to his sons, berates them, shakes his antlers, paws the ground, snorts, runs them off into the underbrush, but when his daughter puts her arm over his shoulder and says, “Daddy, I need to ask you something,” he is a pat of butter in a hot frying pan. – Garrison Keillor

I’m proud of you, Andy. – My dad
