If you’ve ever picked up a book on investing, you know much of the investing world follows a model known as “modern portfolio theory.” It’s the idea that if you put a mix of stocks together, measure their correlations and adjust your position sizes based on those figures, you can optimize your portfolio’s returns and reduce your risk. Its debut revolutionized the world of money. In fact, it won a Nobel Prize.
The problem with modern portfolio theory is that it’s about as modern as a black-and- white TV. (We’re not joking! The first color TV debuted in 1953 – one year after modern portfolio theory was first published.)
The theory is so old that it doesn’t take into account modern ideas like stock options… exchange-traded funds… cryptocurrencies… quantitative easing… near-zero interest rates… runaway government debt… or, perhaps the biggest disrupter of all, the internet.
The bottom line is… things have changed. Our modern markets look a whole lot different. That means our investing models should look different too. And that’s precisely where our Modern Asset Portfolio theory – or MAP theory – comes in.
It’s a smarter way to invest. Because with MAP theory, we aren’t focused on how the markets worked more than half a century ago. We’re focused, instead, on a truly modern market… with an investing model based on what’s happening right now.

Event-Driven and Opportunistic positions take advantage of what’s hot, whether that’s an event-driven opportunity, a narrative-driven play or a technical setup… or a bond market, a commodity market or a currency market play… or any other opportunity we can play with all the ETF tools available to us.

Our Wealth Protection Strategy
Investing isn’t just about buying the assets with the most upside potential. Selling is just as important. It’s often an emotional, confusing process. That’s why we follow a strict selling policy.
Most often we’ll use a trailing stop of 25%. But sometimes we’ll sell when a trigger is hit… using intra-day prices.
Either way, our rule is simple – we know when and why we’ll sell before we buy. It’s critical.
